What is DTE and DCE?

DCE = Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (also called Data Communications Equipment).

• In the context of modems, the DCE is the modem itself.
  
• It connects to a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment), which is typically your computer, microcontroller, or router.
  

Roles:

• The DTE and DCE sides determine who provides clock signals, and how cables are wired (TX/RX pins).
  
• In UART serial communication, for example:
  
  • DTE sends data to DCE, which modulates/transmits it.
    
  • DCE receives data from DTE, demodulates it, and sends it to the remote device.
    

What is PPP?

PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) is a data link layer protocol used to establish a direct connection between two network nodes.
It allows the transmission of multi-protocol datagrams (e.g., IP, IPv6, IPX) over serial links, phone lines, or other point-to-point connections.
